All Things Functional Proves Highly Successful

June saw the Paragon hotel in Birmingham packed out once again as the All Things Functional conference brought people together from across the country in order to discuss and debate Functional Skills and to share best practice.

Building on the success of the previous event in January, the conference heard from expert speakers such as David Hughes, CEO of NIACE, Chris Starling the head of apprenticeships at Virgin Media, Jayne Holt, assistant principal at Walsall College and Jim Coyle, an Ofsted inspector.

Delegates also took part in a wide array of workshops, which included tips such as how to prepare your learners for assessment in Functional Skills (separate sessions for Maths, English and ICT), how to use the new teaching qualifications and a practical guide to funding.

Feedback from the delegates was overwhelmingly positive and EM Skills, in partnership with IQ, are now planning to take the practical elements of the workshops on the road and offer a series of events across the country from Autumn. If you would like to host one of these events please get in touch!
