Development Spotlight: Insulation & Building Treatments

This edition of development spotlight, we take a look at our upcoming suite of NVQ qualifications in insulation & building treatments.

The full range of qualifications in development is as follows. The:

This new series of developments marks our next steps in the wider Building & Construction sector and will serve to complement our existing range of Glazing & Fenestration qualifications.  The qualifications also relate to the Government’s on-going Green Deal scheme, under which homeowners can take out a loan to have home improvement work done to raise their energy efficiency, as both insulation and glazing are covered by the scheme.

Each qualification in the suite consists of four mandatory units, three of which serve to ensure that learners have a firm understanding of the general principles of working in insulation. These three common units cover general health & safety in the workplace, productivity in the workplace and the correct moving, handling and storing practices for resources. The fourth mandatory unit is unique to each qualification and allows the learner to specialise in their chosen field. Finally, there is a fifth, optional unit in each qualification, which covers the correct procedures for erecting and dismantling working platforms.

All of the above qualifications can form the competence part of the Intermediate Apprenticeship for Construction Specialists - Pathway 12 (Insulation & Building Treatments). IQ are also looking to develop the corresponding knowledge component, the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Building & Insulation Treatments, in order to offer the full apprenticeship and would welcome letters of support for this qualification.

The full suite will be available in the coming weeks and each qualification will be available to IQ centres at a cost of £50 per registration. If you wish to be approved to offer these qualifications please get in touch.
