First for ICC Security Team

Eight members of the security team at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham are the first to be awarded with the NVQ in Providing Security Services at level 2 by Industry Qualifications. The awards were part of a wider training programme delivered by specialist trainer SAFE for the ICC, in conjunction with Stephenson College.

Richard Concannon, Security Manager at the ICC said “We are delighted that ICC staff are the first to receive the IQ NVQ level 2 security qualification.  Our security team works in an environment which is both stimulating and demanding, playing an important role in the ability of the ICC to provide a world class conference and exhibition venue. Dealing with both UK and International visitors, the ICC security team influences visitor perceptions not just of the ICC, but also the West Midlands and the wider UK. The ICC, which is part of the NEC group, hosts around 400 events each year and accommodates some 150,000 delegates at these events. Chief Executive of IQ, Raymond Clarke said “We could not have asked for a better backdrop to the issue of our first NVQ’s in security. The involvement of a venue with an international reputation for excellence combined with the commitment of Richard and his team, supported by an experienced training team has ensured that the first IQ NVQ’s in the sector are thoroughly deserved”.
