At the Association of Colleges annual conference at the Birmingham International Conference Centre, Awarding Organisation Industry Qualifications (IQ), announced today that South Nottingham College has joined their expanding network of FE college members.

Speaking on behalf of the newest IQ member, Neil Fowkes, Head of SNC Training, part of South Nottingham College, said “We are very interested in working with IQ and look forward to developing qualifications to meet the demands of our local employers. In particular we seek to make apprenticeships fit for purpose by developing substantial programmes to help employees within the security sector feel they have valuable qualifications that have given them the experience to call themselves professionals.”

“We are also excited about being part of an awarding organisation owned by the learning sector.”

In response Ray Clarke, Chief Executive at IQ said “We welcome SNC Training as a member of IQ. As the first pan sector mutual awarding organisation we work with centres in a very different way to that traditionally seen amongst awarding organisations. Members are closely involved in the development of our qualifications, guiding us on delivery and assessment methodologies that closely fit the needs of their learners, and advising us in prioritising the introduction of qualifications to meet the demands of their local employer markets. SNC will bring considerable expertise to our College Development Forum, particularly in the security sector.”

The College Development Forum enables member colleges to collaborate on shared interests and joint ventures, some of which will enable international expansion. Learning content developed by members can be distributed through IQ Resources LLP, potentially bringing a new income line to colleges. Working closely with trade bodies, IQ qualifications are developed with industry for industry, providing colleges with assurance that its qualifications will improve the employability and prospects of its students.
