Launch for New Qualification in Travel Safety for Women

London’s Walkabout restaurant, haunt of travellers and backpackers worldwide, was a fitting venue for the launch of a suite of qualifications on travel safety awareness on Wednesday 22nd May.

Developed by RISC Consultants/Rutherford Training Consultants (RTC) and accredited by the innovative awarding organisation, Industry Qualifications, the suite comprises three qualifications for executives, women and backpackers & gap year travellers.

The main focus of Wednesday’s launch was the IQ Level 2 Organisation Award in Travel Safety Awareness for Women. Attendees were provided with presentations providing an overview of the qualification as well as a workshop giving an insight into the issues faced by women travellers.

Invited guests included press, media, FE and University pastoral and business managers as well as those working in the travel and hospitality sectors.

Attending from Essential Travel, part of the Thomas Cook group travel organisation, Nina Montgomery, Essential Travel's Travel Insurance expert said of the workshop;

"As a travel insurance specialist we are passionate about helping our customers stay safe whilst travelling. This course is an excellent primer on safety conscious thinking when travelling and, whilst perfect for backpackers and young travellers, would actually be extremely valuable for travellers of any age, especially those going to a different culture"

Karl Spiers, Chairman of the Institute of Hotel Security Managers and Director of Security at the Hyatt Regency Churchill Hotel, who also attended the launch said;

“Women are a critical segment of our business within the hotel and their safety is of the utmost importance to us. Here at Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill, all the team have been fully trained on the health and safety needs of our female guests. A course such as “Travel Safety Awareness for Women” would be extremely beneficial for those within the Hospitality Industry who are looking for additional training.”

Ian Rutherford of RISC said;

“Travel safety awareness will give all travellers the skills they need when travelling in countries with different cultures and needs, but, uniquely, we have developed three different versions of the qualification to really focus on safety and security specific to different types of traveller.”

Reflecting on the launch Head of Business Development of Industry Qualifications, Sallyann Baldry said;

“I was struck by the broad range of organisations represented at the launch and I think this reflects the cross sector interest in a nationally benchmarked qualification that can mitigate risk not just for women but for all those who travel.”
