About this Qualification

The IQ Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning and Support Services Skills (QCF) is a qualification aimed at individuals who intend to gain formal recognition of their competence to work in a cleaning or support role. The qualification is generic, so it is suitable for individuals working or intending to work in a variety of roles, including but not limited to cleaners, housekeepers, care workers, room attendants, laboratory technicians, caretakers and kitchen assistants. In the mandatory units, all learners will cover the essentials of reducing risks to health and safety in the workplace, communicating effectively in the workplace and developing themselves in the job role. There are a range of optional units allowing learners scope to choose those areas most relevant to their specific role, including working with others, following reporting procedures, cleaning a variety of different internal/ external surfaces, dealing with waste, replenishing supplies, food areas, deep cleaning, street cleaning, water-fed pole systems, maintenance and working at heights. Objectives of the qualification include preparing learners to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding, meeting relevant programmes of learning, preparing learners for employment and supporting a role in the workplace.

This qualification is the competence component of the Cleaning and Support Services pathway of the Apprenticeship in Cleaning and Environmental Services (Level 2 Intermediate).

Progression

Learners who achieve this qualification can progress to the knowledge component of the Cleaning and Support Services pathway of the apprenticeship: Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles (QCF). They can also progress to a range of other competence-based qualifications using credits already achieved as there is an overlap of units. Such qualifications include:
