About this Qualification

The IQ Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (QCF) is a qualification for tutors and trainers wishing to teach in further education or adult education in the Lifelong Learning Sector. It is the first step towards becoming a teacher and provides the learner with sufficient evidence of the necessary skills and knowledge, enabling them to teach beyond an initial year in the FE Sector.

The updated Level 3 Award is more accessible to people in a variety of different roles and work contexts in the sector. It will also support several different routes to achievement, including the award of credits through units drawn from the learning and development qualifications.

Structure

To complete this qualification learners have to achieve a total of 12 credits: 3 credits from group A, 6 credits from group B and 3 credits from group C.

Assessment

Assessment for this qualification is based on Coursework, Portfolio of Evidence, Practical Demonstration/Assignment including the required a micro teach session.

Learner Entry Requirements

• All learners need to have the personal and intellectual qualities to acquire the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to gain this qualification
• All learners need to be able to read effectively, and be able to communicate clearly and accurately in spoken and written standard English
• Systems are in place to seek information on whether learners have a criminal background which might prevent them working with young people or vulnerable adults, as a teacher, trainer or tutor
• Learners normally need to hold relevant vocational and/or academic qualifications at least one level above those they are teaching
• There needs to be a documented process for interviewing both external and “in-house” learners as part of the selection process.

Tutor Requirements

 

All trainers delivering this qualification must have

• Appropriate teaching qualification e.g., Cert.Ed., PGCE, Level 3 CTLLS, Level 3 DTLLS, Level 4 PTLLS. Evidence of relevant CPD
• Assessors/ trainers delivering unit 7 must also meet the requirements of LLUK’s Assessment Strategy, see Appendix A
