Qualification Purpose
Objectives of the qualification include preparing learners to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding, meeting relevant programmes of learning, preparing learners for employment and supporting a role in the workplace.
About this Qualification
The IQ Level 2 Award in Cleaning Principles (Passenger Transport Interiors) (QCF) is a qualification aimed at individuals who intend to develop and gain formal recognition of their knowledge and understanding of cleaning passenger transport interiors, for example trains, aircraft, coaches, trams and boats. In the single mandatory unit, all learners will cover how to prepare and carry out valeting of internal surfaces and furnishings, checking cleaning and resources, disposing of waste and returning equipment and items.
Progression
Learners who achieve this qualification can progress to the IQ Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles (QCF) using credits already achieved, because the single mandatory unit is common to that qualification. The IQ Level 2 Certificate in Cleaning Principles (QCF) qualification is the knowledge component of the Apprenticeship in Cleaning and Environmental Services: Cleaning and Support Services Pathway.

Structure
To achieve the IQ Level 2 Award in Cleaning Principles (Passenger Transport Interiors) (QCF), learners must achieve 3 credits from the single mandatory unit.
Assessment
Assessment of this qualification is by practical demonstration/ assignment, externally set, internally marked and quality assured by IQ. The Assessment Workbook provided by IQ and available to download from the website, must be used by centres to record all assessment. All assessment criteria must be met. Internal Verification must be carried out in accordance with centre procedures. All assessments are subject to external quality assurance by IQ.
Assessment criteria assessed by practical demonstration: These must be assessed by practical demonstration which demonstrates the learner’s competence; centres must use the practical demonstration section of the IQ Assessment Workbook. Although centres cannot use their own documentation or alternative methods of assessment, they should contextualise this section of the workbook to meet the requirements of the setting e.g. a passenger aircraft. Practical demonstrations do not have to be carried out in the workplace but they should be carried out in a realistic working environment appropriate to the unit.
Knowledge-based assessment criteria: These must be assessed by written question and answer or by oral questioning; centres must use the questions section in the IQ Assessment Workbook. If using written question and answer this should be internally marked by the assessor. If using oral questions and answer the answers should be recorded as well as marked by the assessor in the Achievement Record Workbook.
This qualification is not graded, successful learners achieve a pass.
Learner Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. However, learners should be able to work at level 1 or above and be proficient in the use of English Language.
Tutor Requirements
All trainers delivering this qualification must be sector competent and possess relevant knowledge up to at least the level of this qualification. They should hold a teaching or assessor qualification.
Centre Requirements
Centres must be approved by IQ in order to offer this qualification.
Centres must be able to provide realistic suitable settings and equipment that will enable learners to carry out all the necessary tasks to fulfil the assessment criteria of the single mandatory unit.
