About this Qualification
The IQ Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF) is a qualification aimed at individuals who work directly supporting the teaching and learning of pupils. It provides recognition for the learner’s knowledge and practical ability within an educational setting. As this qualification features practical units, there is a requirement to be practising in a teaching and learning support role either in a paid or voluntary capacity. All learners will cover the essential knowledge and skills, including safeguarding, communication, equality, young person development and the concept of schools as organisations. By way of optional units, there is considerable scope for learners to cover specific areas of choice, such as bilingual learners, special educational needs, therapy, invigilation and extra-curricular activities. Objectives of the qualification include: preparing learners to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding; meeting relevant programmes of learning; and supporting a role in the work place. This qualification forms the combined knowledge and competence component of the Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools.
Progression
Learners can progress to the IQ Level 3 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learner in Schools (QCF) or the IQ Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF), potentially using credits already achieved towards this qualification as there is an overlap of optional units.
