About this Qualification

The IQ Level 4 Award in the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF) is a qualification aimed at individuals who work or intend to work within an external quality assurance team. The qualification provides recognition for the learner’s knowledge and practical ability in external quality assurance and assessment processes and is relevant to a variety of sectors. Learners who have achieved this qualification can progress to the Level 4 Certificate in Leading the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (QCF) using credit already gained asthere are units in common.

Structure

Assessment

Assessment for this qualification is by portfolio. It must be in accordance with the Lifelong Learning UK Assessment Strategy (see Appendix A of this document).

There is no requirement for each unit to be assessed separately. Assessors are advised to adopt a holistic approach and, where possible, to use one activity as evidence for learning outcomes and assessment criteria for both units. For example, a discussion for ‘Externally assure the quality of assessment’ might provide some evidence for ‘Understanding the principles and practices of externally assuring the quality of assessment’. However, it is essential that evidence forthe assessment criteria in each unit is also identified individually.
A Qualification Achievement Record for this qualification which includes the forms necessary to map and claim competence is available to download from the IQ website.

Learner Entry Requirements

All those who assess this qualification must already hold it or an equivalent qualification. They must have appropriate experience as a quality assurance practitioner and hold relevant qualifications.
