About this Qualification
The IQ Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Insulation and Building Treatments (External Wall Insulation - Boarder) (QCF) is aimed at individuals who intend to develop and gain formal recognition of their knowledge of and competence in installing external wall insulation. The qualification is applicable for individuals working as insulation and building treatments installers on construction sites or domestic or commercial premises injecting insulation materials, fitting insulation materials to internal and external walls of buildings or laying loft insulation, and working to given specifications and customer requirements. By completing the 4 mandatory units all candidates will cover the essentials of installing External Wall Insulation in Construction including general health, safety and welfare in the workplace; productive working practices in the workplace; moving, handling and storing resources in the workplace and installing External Wall Insulation. Objectives of the qualification include preparing candidates to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level, or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding and supporting a role in the workplace.
This qualification is a competence element of the Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship in Construction Specialist, Pathway 12: Insulation and Building Treatments.

Structure
To achieve this qualification learners must achieve a total of 29 credits from mandatory group M. Learners may achieve additional credits from the elective Additional Unit; however, these credits will not count towards the overall credits for the qualification.
Assessment
Assessment is by portfolio.
Evidence for this qualification must come from the candidates consistent performance in the workplace and must meet the requirements of the ConstructionSkills’ Consolidated Assessment Strategy (Appendix A located at the end of this document).
All knowledge elements must be assessed using methods appropriate to the assessment of knowledge and understanding, these can be assessed by a variety of methods including:
- Question and answer test
- Multiple choice questions
- Question and answer verbal (ensure records are kept)
- Essay
- Other
Further guidance for each unit can be found in the assessment guidance relevant to each unit. All Assessment Criteria must be met in each relevant unit to achieve this qualification.
An Achievement Record for this qualification which includes the forms necessary to map and claim knowledge and competence is available to download from the IQ website.
Assessment for this qualification must also meet the requirements for Additional Requirements for Qualifications that use the title NVQ within the QCF( see appendix B located at the end of this document).
Learner Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. However, learners should be able to work at level 1 or above and be proficient in the use of English Language.
Tutor Requirements
All trainers/assessors and internal verifiers delivering this qualification must meet the requirements as per the ConstructionSkills Consolidated Assessment Strategy. See Appendix A located at the end of this document.
Centre Requirements
Centres must be approved by IQ in order to offer this qualification.
