About this Qualification
The IQ Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace (QCF) is a qualification aimed at individuals who intend to develop their knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace. It provides learners with formal recognition of their knowledge and understanding and as the qualification is generic, it is applicable to a range of work settings. As the qualification is knowledge-based, there is no requirement for the learner to be in work. By completing the single mandatory unit, all learners will cover the essentials of health and safety in the workplace, including roles and responsibilities, the contribution of risk assessments, identifying and controlling the risks from common workplace hazards and the procedures for responding to accidents and incidents. Objectives of the qualification include preparing learners to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding, meeting relevant programmes of learning, preparing learners for employment and supporting a role in the workplace.
Progression
Upon completion of the IQ Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace (QCF), learners can progress to a range of qualifications using credits already achieved, as the mandatory unit is common to them. These qualifications include:
Level 1 Award in Introduction to Employment in the Hospitality Industry (QCF)
Level 2 Certificate In Licensed Hospitality Operations (QCF)
Level 2 Certificate In Health and Safety in the Workplace (QCF)
Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Working Life (QCF)
Level 2 Award in Occupational Health and Safety (QCF)

Structure
To achieve the IQ Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace (QCF), learners must achieve 1 credit from the single mandatory unit.
Assessment
Assessment for the single unit in this qualification is by portfolio (internally set and marked and quality assured by IQ).
The Achievement Record/Workbook provided by IQ, and available to download from the website, should be used by centres to record all assessment. It includes the forms necessary to map and claim knowledge and all assessment criteria of the unit must be covered.
This qualification is not graded, successful learners achieve a pass. All assessment criteria must be met.
All learning outcomes in this qualification must be assessed using methods appropriate to the assessment of knowledge and understanding; these can be assessed by a variety of methods including:
- Question and answer test
- Multiple choice questions
- Question and answer verbal (ensure records are kept)
- Essay
- Other
Learner Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. However, learners should be able to work at level 1 or above and be proficient in the use of English Language.
Tutor Requirements
All trainers delivering this qualification must be sector competent and possess relevant experience/qualifications in Health and Safety at Level 3 or above; and should have appropriate teaching qualification e.g. PTLLS.
Centre Requirements
Centres must be approved by IQ in order to offer this qualification.
