About this Qualification
The IQ Level 3 Certificate in the Principles of Facilities Management is a qualification for individuals who work or want to work in facilities management and is suitable for first line managers, trainee/assistant facilities managers and facilities management team leaders. It covers the knowledge and understanding of diverse elements of facilities management including: delivering facilities management service in the workplace, health and safety, facilities management within the context of an organisation, relationships in the workplace; optional units include: solving problems and making decisions, innovation and change in an organisation, how to establish an effective team, how to motivate to improve performance, recruitment and selection of new staff, organising and delegating, projects performance, management costs and budgets, efficient use of materials and equipment, managing and maintaining property and assets, sustainability and environmental issues, utility services and energy efficiency, managing contracts and contractors in the workplace. Objectives include preparing learners to progress to a qualification in the same subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding, preparing Learners for employment, supporting a role in the workplace, and giving learners personal growth and engagement in learning.
This qualification forms the knowledge element of the. Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Facilities Management.

Structure
To achieve this qualification learners have to achieve a minimum of 21 credits in total; 10 credits from the 4 units in Mandatory Group A and a minimum of 11 credits from Optional Group B.

Assessment
All the units in this qualification are knowledge-based. Assessment is by portfolio/assignment (internally set and marked and quality assured by IQ).
An Achievement Record for this qualification which includes the forms necessary to map and claim knowledge and understanding is available to download from the IQ website. All assessment criteria (of relevant units) must be met and mapped and the location of the evidence must be indicated in the achievement record.
All assessment criteria outcomes of the relevant units must be assessed using methods appropriate to the assessment of knowledge and understanding, these can be assessed by a variety of methods including:
- Question and answer test
- Multiple choice questions
- Question and answer verbal (ensure records are kept)
- Essay
- Other
This qualification is not graded, successful learners achieve a pass.
Learner Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements. However, learners should be able to work at level 2 or above and be proficient in the use of English Language.
Tutor Requirements
All trainers delivering this qualification must have
- Appropriate teaching qualification e.g. PTLLS or assessor qualifications
- Relevant qualifications or experience in facilities management and CPD
Centre Requirements
Centres must be approved by IQ to offer this qualification.
