Qualification Purpose

The objectives of this qualification include preparing learners to progress to a qualification in the same or a related subject area but at a higher level or requiring more specific knowledge, skills and understanding; preparing learners to progress to a qualification in another subject area; meeting relevant programmes of learning and giving learners personal growth and engagement in learning.

About this Qualification

This qualification is designed to provide an introduction to the environmental sustainability sector for those wishing to pursue a career in the energy sector or in conservation.  It is an entry-level qualification, offering a limited depth and breadth of knowledge that will allow learners to develop knowledge and understanding in the subject area in preparation for further study.  On completion of this qualification, learners can progress directly onto full Level 1 sector relevant qualifications such as the Level 1 Certificate in Understanding Environmental Sustainability, other full Level 1 qualifications or the Level 2 Award in Environmental Sustainability.

This qualification alone is insufficient to enable learners to demonstrate occupational competence and therefore cannot be used as a licence to practice or as an entry qualification for particular job roles.

Assessment

Assessment for this qualification is by portfolio, internally set and marked by the centre and quality assured by IQ; an achievement record is available to download form the qualification page of the website. 

 

All Assessment criteria in this unit must be assessed using methods appropriate to the assessment of knowledge and understanding; including:

  • Question and answer test
  • Multiple choice questions
  • Question and answer verbal (ensure records are kept)
  • Essay
  • Other

 This qualification is not graded, and successful learners achieve a pass.

 NB: The support materials produced to aid the delivery of this qualification must NOT be used by the centre for the final assessment.

 

Learner Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements; however, learners should be able to work at Entry Level 3 or above.

Tutor Requirements

All trainers delivering this qualification must have

  • Appropriate teaching qualification e.g. PTLLS
  • Relevant experience in the sector

Centre Requirements

Centres must be approved by IQ in order to offer this qualification.
