Assessment

All units in this qualification are assessed by portfolio. Evidence for this qualification must come from the learners consistence performance in the workplace and must meet the requirements of the Cogent Assessment Strategy for the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Nuclear, Oil and Gas, Petroleum and Polymer Industries (Appendix A - located at the end of this document). Further guidance for each unit can be found in the assessment guidance relevant to each unit.

An Achievement Record for this qualification which includes the forms necessary to map and claim knowledge and competence is available to download from the IQ website

If the learner intends or may intend to progress to an apprenticeship: There are units in this qualification which are in common with the Level 2 Certificate in Polymer/Polymer Composite Operations (which is the combined component of the Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Polymer Processing Operations). Learners can use credit achieved in the level 1 qualification towards the level 2 qualification, however, please note that: if taking these units within the context of the apprenticeship, the knowledge and understanding requirements must be separately assessed, recorded and evidenced. This must be done through the use of written question and answer evidence which is externally verified by IQ.

Learner Entry Requirements

Learners undertaking this qualification should be already working or have access to work within a polymer processing environment as an operator, developing their role and seeking accreditation for their skills and knowledge. They should able to work at entry level 3.

Progression

Learners can progress to the Level 2 Certificate in Polymer/Polymer Composite Operations (QCF) using credits achieved in this qualification, as there is an overlap of units.

Learners can then progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Polymer/Polymer Composite Operations (QCF), again using credits already achieved.

Tutor Requirements

All trainers/assessors and internal verifiers delivering this qualification must meet the requirements as per the assessment strategy (the Cogent Assessment Strategy for the Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Nuclear, Oil and Gas, Petroleum and Polymer Industries 2003). Please see Appendix A.
